unnamedDr. Joseph Lamelas, Chief of Cardiac Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center, is a board-certified cardiac and thoracic surgeon practicing in Miami Beach, Florida. He has performed more than 10,000 open-heart procedures and more than 2,500 minimally invasive valve surgeries. In addition to his involvement in training surgeons in advanced and innovative surgical techniques, he has participated in national and international operative surgical symposia and has lectured nationally and internationally. Dr. Lamelas completed his training in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery at the State University of New York, Health Science Center of Brooklyn in 1990.

He has published numerous articles and presented extensively on cardiac surgery. He is the past President of the Cuban Surgical Society (1999-2002), a council member of the Florida Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons and other surgical and cardiovascular societies.

Dr. Lamelas is Board Certified in Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, and Surgical Critical Care. As a result of his extensive experience, Dr. Lamelas has played an instrumental role in the design and development of new and innovative concepts and products for advancing the field of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery. Miami Instruments was a collaborative effort amongst Dr. Lamelas and engineers with the vision of providing Cardiac Surgeons the tools and exposure devices to facilitate minimally invasive procedures. Simplicity and reproducibility have been the primary goal of the “Miami Method.”
